Ookawa Stone Quarry 大川石丁場
stone quarry road
If you are searching for the stone quarry, look for this small road that runs alongside this farm. Just keep following it and you can't miss the stones. Soon they'll be scattered all over on your right. This road was likely the road the brought finished stone out from the quarry. The large stone on the left was probably dropped and left behind at some point. It was considered bad luck to use a dropped stone in the wall (the Japanese character 落 could also be equated with the castle being conquered) so stones that were dropped on their way to Edo for any reason were not used. Because of this, there are several big stones like this that have been left around this area and on the coast.
