Ibako Castle

History

It is thought that Ibakojō ('Iba Old Castle') was an earlier castle built by the Iba Clan before their main residence of Ibajō. It was about 100m² in size. See my profile on Iba Castle for more information.

Visit Notes

No ruins remain of Ibakojō and the site is now rice paddies.

I have ridden past these rice fields on a bicycle after visiting Iba Castle Ruin, and there is absolutely no trace of Ibako Castle at all. If a castle fan has oodles of free time to kill in the Notogawa area, and you have already visited Sasou Castle, Iba Castle, and Iba Palace, all sites with some extant ruins, try going a bit further north to JR Kawase Station (two train stops away) and then head to Yamazakiyama Castle, an Oda Nobunaga castle built at around the same time as Azuchi Castle. This is a little-known small yamajiro with some stone wall ruins and earthwork remnants.

BTW, the photo in this profile shows the entire mountain where Azuchi Castle is located. It's the mountain in the distance directly behind the T-junction.
