History

The history of this castle is not clear. It was likely a built by a branch family of the Hattori at nearby (600m) Hattori Castle. Along with Mochizuki Castle and Shingu Castle, Murasame Castle is one of the more well developed castles in terms of size and design including a small masugata style box entrance. This network of castles may have helped to hide Rokkaku Yoshikata when he fled Nobunaga and are designated National Historic Sites. See Koka Castles for more details.

Visit Notes

The main Bailey is 30m x 40m with 4m high embankments. Approximately 50m north of the castle is Jizen Castle. Between the two you will find two horikiri trenches and small embankments making it hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
