Background

The garden of this Seri-gumi ashigaru residence is included in the historical registry of the site. The house has been slightly renovated into a cafe specializing in vegan offerings, particularly those using pure cacao.

When I visited in October 2021, the cafe was full and it was closed during the second visit in November 2022, but I would like to visit again sometime and enjoy the garden more too. With about 30 such ashigaru homes in the area, they don't all need to be preserved like museums. It would be brilliant to reuse some of these old houses as cafes or little shops to make a complete tourist destination. The owner of the Murayama Residence has recently taken over the Taniyama Residence where they manufacture their raw chocolate confections.

some of the samurai homes in Sasayama and Kanagasaki are cafes. it's a good idea.
