SaegusaYashiki (1).JPG

History

Saegusa-yashiki was constructed by Saegusa Moritsuna during the reign of Takeda Nobutora (early 16th century), though there is a tradition that it was built earlier by Saegusa Morikuni. It is also said that the Noro Clan inhabited the residence at some point. Saegusa Torakichi would serve the Tokugawa Clan following the fall of the Takeda Clan in 1582; he became one of the four magistrates of Kai, and his decedents were granted land in Awa during the Edo period.

Visit Notes

Saegusa-yashiki is a fortified residence site in rural Sutama Township, Hokuto Municipality. Ruins remain in the form of dorui (earthen ramparts) adjacent to a shrine to Hachiman.
