History

Yagurajō was built by the Takeda Clan in 1550. It was not a fully developed castle but rather a fortified encampment (jinjō / jinba / toride) or impermanent fort used by Takeda forces during their attack on Toishi Castle.Yagurajō was used as a node in the blockade and siege of Toishijō. At this time the Takeda were supporting the Sanada against the Murakami who occupied Toishijō. But Yagurajō, being right in the middle of the plain, was exposed to attack. When the Murakami Clan negotiated a peace with the Takanashi Clan, the Takeda army suspected that the Takanashi would attack them from their rear, and so they abandoned Yagurajō and re-positioned. It was at this time the Murakami Yoshikiyo arrived with reinforcements and engaged the Takeda forces, famously routing them.

Visit Notes

Nothing remains of Yagurajō. The site is now farmland. I came here on the way to Sanada Yazawa Castle.
