Shimogatou Yashiki
From Jcastle.info
History
Shimogatō-yashiki is thought to have been the fortified residence of Katō Terumasa in the early 15th century. Katō Terumasa was a vassal of Takeda Nobunaga, and he fought against Itsumi Arinao.
Visit Notes
The site of Shimogatō-yashiki is now that of the temples Eiganji and Shōgyōji. The entrance of Eiganji retains a water-filled moat which is thought to have originally defended the yashiki (residence). Sure enough there is also remnant dorui (earthen ramparts) banked up behind the moat segment. The architecture belongs to the temple rather than the medieval residence but is nonetheless quite fetching.
