Shimomakifurujou (1).JPG

History

That this is the "old castle" of the Shimomaki Clan seems obvious enough, but where is the new castle then? Is it a nearby site where the name has changed? It's something of a mystery. There is also a Kamimakifuru Castle in Ina but it is some distance northward, and presumably the old castle of the Kamimaki Clan.

Visit Notes

Shimomakifurujō is a clifftop castle ruin containing a large mound, which was likely part of a large dorui (earth-piled rampart). The shukuruwa (main bailey) is now farmland.
