History

It is thought that Oshinojō was built by the Takada Clan and also controlled by the Maruyama Clan at some point. The Takeda Clan took over the area in the Sengoku Period, but after their demise the Ogasawara Clan, who were the traditional hegemonic clan of Shinano, returned and conducted a punitive campaign against those who had supported the Takeda, including the Maruyama Clan, who were defeated in the mid' 1580s. The Takada Clan had their residence at the foot of the castle mount, and their ancestors still live there to this day.

Visit Notes

A forest road wraps around this site and probably has obscurred the shape of the castle's lower portions. However, the main bailey remains at least. It has some dorui at the back. I saw a pheasant here and the view of Akashina was nice. I could see Tōnoharajō on the mountain across the Sai River. According to castle bloggers much of the castle ruins have been destroyed in recent years by the municipal government.
