Furuijō was built by Ishihara Sōzaemon. It later became the residence of the Hosoi Clan, with lords Hosoi Samanosuke and Hosoi Hikosaemon, the latter of which abandoned the castle in the late 16th century.

Visit Notes

Furuijō is a fortified residence site in the Furui Township of Anjō Municipality. No ruins remain and the site is now residential sprawl, a temple and a shrine. The name of the area means 'Old Well', and the old well which is said to have given the township its name, its very namesake, has recently been flattened by maisonettes, and is now a carpark. Shameful.
