This samurai home in Kanegasaki Castle town is now a restaurant. When we came lunch had just finished but they let us inside anyway to look around and we even got a mini-tour. The lady who runs it was saying what trouble they went to preserve a traditional veranda (without glass) by using plastic sheeting to protect against the elements whilst still letting in ample light and granting a view, even though it gets terribly cold in the winter. They use hot air from the kitchen and blast it into the restaurant area. The thatched roof is now covered in sheet metal. Space in front of the home has been cultivated into a nice garden and agricultural land surrounds the rest of the house.
