History

The castle was built by Fujita Shigetoshi as a satellite castle to Hachigata Castle. It has great views up and down the valley with a good sight line to Hachigata Castle so it would have likely been a location for a smoke signal tower as well. The castle was abandoned after the downfall of the Hojo in 1590.

Visit Notes

Kanao Yogaisan Castle is mainly known for being an azalea park and having good views down the valley. I don't think there were any signs pointing out the castle ruins. In fact, even with a good map it's hard to pick out any ruins. I don't often say this, but it's hard to recommend a visit to this castle unless you happen to be here and want to go up to enjoy the views. Nearby Hachigata Castle is a must see castle nearby.
金尾要害山城は主につつじの公園として有名です。城跡の案内は一切なかったと思います。

I came to Kanaoyōgaiyamajō on the way to Hanazonojō since there was no timely train from Tenjin'yamajō and I walked. There's nothing to see except for some cleared spaces which were once the castle's baileys. There is a lookout tower with views. Recently a roof has been built on it.

Nice shot of the river. This site is also called Kinoyama? The signs at the top briefly mention the castle as a branch castle of 鉢形城
