The last time I visited Matsue Castle the samurai house was unfortunately closed due to repairs. It's now re-open so I took the opportunity to visit. The house is very picturesque. I noticed some odd architectural features which proved to be Meiji Period extensions. The street the residence is on, opposite the castle's moat, is a remnant of the old jōkamachi (castle town).
