Mikkaichiba Yakata
From Jcastle.info
History
Mikkaichiba-yakata was essentially the kyokan (residential area) of Mikkaichibajō, and the main residence of the Sawando Clan in the medieval era. See Mikkaichiba Castle for more information.
Visit Notes
Mikkaichiba-yakata is a fortified manor hall site with no confirmed ruins remaining. Around one house I noticed some fairly tall earthen embankments, but that's about it, and it's nothing definitive. The site of the yakata is elevated in relation to surrounding fields, and so it's easy to imagine this as an easy to defend emplacement for a secured residential compound. There is a strange monument here called the Shinmeisha Windmill. It seems to have been built to commemorate the Winter Olympics held in the area in 1998.
