History
Kirihara Castle (Chikuma-Kiriharajō) in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, is a relatively well known castle ruin due to its outstanding stone-piled wall remains. However, there is another Kirihara Castle (Minochi-Kiriharajō): this one, which is located in Nagano City. It is associated with the same Kirihara Clan, and some believe this site to be their original base. The nearby shrine is called Kiriharamaki-jinja.
Visit Notes
The site of Kiriharajō is now a residential area, shrine, Kiriharamaki-jinja, and temple, Seirinji. No ruins remain. I came here as part of my impromptu Nagano City castle walk.
