History

Ôidejō was likely built by the Ôide Clan as a relacement to Oh'idefuru Castle (the "old castle"). In the Futagi Family Records (二木家記) it is mentioned that the Ôide Clan were involved in the siege of Fukuyojō in which they defended the Fujisawa against the attacking Takeda force. At this time Ôidejō was perhaps used as a fortified base for a watchtower. The Ôide had served the Fujisawa for a long time, and as early as the mid-15th century Ôidejō may have played host to Fujisawa Arikane of Dewa.

The ruins of Ôidejō, which was a stockades and earthworks castle, consist of dorui (earthen ramparts), karabori (dry moats), a kuruwa (bailey), koshikuruwa (sub-baileys), and an obikuruwa (a sub-bailey ringing a larger bailey). The site is quite compact and is adjacent to a stonemason's. In the main bailey is a signboard about the castle. The ruin appears from the roadside as a small hill or tumulus.
