Ohhira Okado Castle
History
Okadojō was the fortified residence of Okado Shigenobu and his son, Okado Shigemasa, around 1542. Shigenobu's sister married Naitō Katsushige and served Tokugawa Ieyasu as his nanny. The Okado Clan served at Hamamatsujō and fought at the Battle of Mikataǵahara in 1572 where at least one clan member was killed. The Okado would become hatamoto (bannermen) under the Tokugawa Shogunate. Okadojō later became the site of the Ôhira-Hachimangū.
Visit Notes
Ôhira-Okadojō, also known as Ôhira-Nishijō, is a fortified residence site in the Ôhira neighbourhood of Okazaki City. No definitive ruins remain, and the site is now a shrine to Hachiman. There is a small change in elevation with an embankment on one side of the shrine, but nothing else suggests the site's fortified history.
