TakedaKingoYashiki (1).JPG

Takeda-Kingo-yashiki is mentioned in the Ichirenji-kahōchō ('Death Register of The Lotus Temple'). The neighbourhood name 'Koyashiki', meaning 'Small Residence', and the settlement name 'Higashigo-yashiki (East Latter Residence)', are thought to have descended from the yashiki. Although no ruins exist now, the 19th century document Kai-Kokushi reports the remains of earthen ramparts and moats in a square layout of about 110m². The site today is that of the temple Kōfukuji, now sadly abandoned, which enshrined a statue of Dainichi-nyōrai said to have been donated to the temple by Takeda Kingo, lord of the manor hall. 'Takeda Kingo' is thought to have been an alias of Kurihara Nobumune ('Kingo' was an old court rank rather than an actual name, and the Kurihara Clan were a branch clan of the Takeda Clan). His son, Kurihara Nobuyoshi, is also thought to have inhabited the yashiki. Nobumune lived around the turn of the 16th century and in 1509 he was involved in the civil war between Takeda Nobuhara and the local gentry.

Visit Notes

Takeda-Kingo-yashiki is now the site of an abandoned temple, Kōfukuji, the main hall of which is falling to pieces; the village of Higashigoyashiki, named for the yashiki; and fields. No ruins remain.
