History
Oogo Shigeyuki was a member of the Oogo family supporting the Ogigayatsu Uesugi in Gunma. Shigeyuki moved to Edo and gave his support to the Hojo. His son, Katsuyuki, was given some landholdings that stretched from Ushigome (modern day Kagurazaka) to Akasaka and Hibiya. He changed the family name to Ushigome after the name of the Ushigome area where his residence was located. After the fall of the Hojo, Ushigome were allied with the Tokugawa but the castle was abandoned. The Koshoji Temple was built on this site in 1645. No remains of the castle have been uncovered on this site.
Visit Notes
Even though it's called a hilltop castle in the sources I searched, it was most likely a simple Fortified Manor. The castle ruins are on the site of the Koshoji Temple. There are signs saying "no photography" but I don't know what there is to actually photograph apart from the very small and not very photogenic temple. I assumed it was the graveyard which had some very old looking graves and statues.
