| Description | On either side of this road is a longhouse with 9 apartments on one side and 10 apartments on the other. They were built in 1863 as apartments for guards and their families. They are designated Important Cultural Properties. To this day they are still maintained by the descendants of those who originally lived here and 12 of them are rented out. Only the last apartment on the left side (of this photo) is open for public viewing. I noticed that the people who live here are taking great care to maintain a historic yet livable feel to these apartments. They look very historic and quaint so that I thought I would love to live here too. |

| Description in Japanese | 五城番屋敷です。この道の両側に設けている住居は１８６３年に建てられ、国指定重要文化財に指定されています。現在も屋敷の子孫が維持管理し、12戸分は貸家です。この写真の左側の最後の住居だけが一般公開されています。各私用住居の部分と庭がとてもきれいに管理していて、歴史的な価値を尊重しているように見えました。私もことに住んでみたいと思いました。 |
