Castle Nihonmatsu Castle
Photo Order 10
Description In 1868 all the warriors from Nihonmatsu-jo went to different areas to fight in the Boshin War against the imperial forces. This left only the young samurai and elderly to defend the castle. When the castle was attacked on July 29 it was obvious that the teenage samurai were no match for their invaders. Nevertheless, they wielded their swords with great bravery. The boys were cut down one by one and the castle fell in a matter of hours. 16 boys were tragically killed and faded away into history never to attain the same recognition as the Byakkotai of Aizu Wakamatsu.
