Description | The Seiden (Main Hall) on the left and the Nanden (South Hall) on the right. The Seiden houses two throne rooms as well as private rooms for the royal family. From the outside, the Seiden looks like a typical Chinese or Korean palace throne hall (as well as those in the Kyoto and Nara Imperial Palaces) which would enclose a single large room. However, the Seiden actually has three floors which makes it somewhat similar to a Japanese Tenshu. The Nanden is where Japanese-style ceremonies were conducted and Satsuma officials were received. It was unpainted to signify it's relationship to things Japanese. |
