Kamijima Castle (Ina)

History

Kamijimajō was built on the tip of a river terrace facing the right bank of the Oguro River, facing Ina Oguro Castle on the north side across the Oguro River. The terrace is covered with housing, rice paddies and fields, and no remains of the castle remain. The date and builder of Kamijimajō is not known, but it is assumed to have belonged to a member of the Koide Clan, as it is located at the northern end of the Koide Clan's territory. Kamijimajō was the northern most fort in a network of fortifications protecting the Koide Clan's main base to the south. See Ina Koide Castle for more information.

Visit Notes

Of Kaimjimajō there isn't much to say. There is a stop on the Iida Rail called Shimojima ('Lower Island') so this is the upper part of that place, I guess? By the way, 'shima' doesn't really mean 'island', but something more abstract. There are no ruins here. The strategic advantage of the site on a bluff overlooking a river is fairly obvious though. Beyond the Oguro River is downtown Ina City. It's a grim place in my estimation, and I witnessed a single-vehicle car crash which I reported to the police (other people were assisting the driver). I got the train back to Matsumoto from Ina City Station via Okaya.
