History

This fortified residence was most likely built as the temporary residence of Koide Yoshichika while he was constructing Sonobe Jin'ya. Koide stayed here for two years until Sonobe Jin'ya was completed.

There is also a theory that due to the great relationship between Kobatake and Akechi Mitsuhide (see Shishiudo Yakata, that he may have built this fortified residence for Akechi Mitsuhide to reside when he was in the area, but we have no proof of this. To me it seems too big and well fortified for such a temporary residence. It is more likely the longer term residence for the Koide and possibly some family and vassals.

Visit Notes

This castle is located about 150m from Shishiudo Yakata. It is basically one large bailey with earthen ramparts and two distinct koguchi entrances. It is very nicely preserved and well worth the visit along with Shishiudo Yakata.
