Visit Notes

Mochizukishi Castle is a little smaller and a little less complex design indicating that Mochizuki Castle is likely to be the main one of the pair. See Mochizuki Castle for more details

Mochizukishi Castle was my 400th different castle visited.

Eric, Mochizukishi Castle is not a bad one for a milestone visit. This castle ruin has one big central bailey ringed by earthen ramparts. They are relatively clear of undergrowth, so a castle fan can walk along the top of them. The dorui here is not as high as its neighbour, Mochizuki Castle. Mochizukishi Castle’s earthen ramparts are only around 3.5 to 4m in height as opposed to 7 to 9m for its paired neighbour. There are two koguchi or gateways into the Mochizukishi’s main bailey, as shown in some of the photos on this profile. Surrounding the main bailey are some smaller baileys.

It is easy to miss the way into Mochizukishi Castle from the road as one is tempted to take a clearer trail leading into the forest about 50m from the site of Mochizukishi Castle instead of taking the more overgrown and barely noticeable trail to Mochizukishi Castle.
