Nobutora Tanjou Yashiki
History
Nobutora-Tanjō-yashiki is most notable as the residence where Takeda Nobutora was born, but it was the residence of an Iwashita clansman with the honourific title ‘Protector of Echizen’. This man’s sister married Takeda Nobunawa, the 17th patriarch of the Takeda Clan, and gave birth to his son, Takeda Nobutora, who was born in either 1494 or 1498. The residence was given to the Iwashita Clan in 1466 after Atobe Kageie was defeated by Takeda Nobumasa, but the residence is thought to have originally been constructed by the Atobe Clan. The residence had a square layout with each rampart segment being about 70m long. The remains (id est, holes) of hottate-bashira (pillars driven deep into the earth) buildings were uncovered at the site by archaeological excavations in 2001.
Visit Notes
Nobutora-Tanjō-yashiki literally means ‘the birth residence of Nobutora’, in reference to Takeda Nobutora who was born here, but more properly it is the ‘Iwashita Clan Residence’. This site overlaps with that of ‘Shimizu-jin’ya (Fuefuki)’, but the former is medieval and the latter proto-modern. The signboards with information for each respective site are located on the opposite sides of a field for grapevines. No ruins remain.
