Entrance to Raikoji; Ôtajô.JPG

History

The first castle was built by the Kishu during the Entoku era(1489-1492). It was a flatland castle 273m from West to East and 218m from North to South. The Ôta family reinforced the castle in the early 1500's. The castle sustained 2 major sieges. The first one in 1577, during the expansion of Oda Nobunaga's territories. The second one happened during the Komaki-Nagakute campaign. The Ôta were allies to Tokugawa Ieyasu and took Kishiwada castle from Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Thereupon, Hideyoshi subdued Ôta castle by using his inundation tactic in 1585. The castle was abandoned after that. There is a more detailed history on the Japanese Wikipedia page of the castle. Now the main bailey is where Raikôji temple is situated and the surroundings have been completely urbanized.

These kind of sites parastically get a disproportionate amount of traffic from castle fans due to being close to larger ones, but there's nothing wrong with that. It is well that you hunted down the relocated structure!

ART, I didn't know about the relocated gate and saw it, per chance, passing it. It was a nice gate in front of a temple and when I saw the information panel next to it, I noticed it was a relocated gate of Ota castle.
