History

It is not known who built this castle but it was possibly one of the Hattori families in the area. It is paired with Shingu Castle so please refer to that page for more details.

The main Bailey is approximately 18m x 30m and has the highest embankment of any of the Koka Castles at 10m on the inside in the southwest corner. This highest side also has a small terrace or shelf looking bailey in the middle. The same structure can also be seen at nearby Mochizuki Castle and may have been for a small shrine. The embankments of the main bailey actually start smaller towards the entrance and increase in height going towards the back, following the natural increase in elevation.

Visit Notes

Shingu Castle is one of the largest and best of the Koka Castles and was designated "National Historic Sites of the Kokagunchuso" in 2008.
