Yamazoe Date
From Jcastle.info
History
Yamazoe-date was identified through archaeological excavations but its history is obscure. There is some speculation that the compound belonged to the Sagoshi Clan who caused so much trouble for the Mutō Clan. Mounds and a well were identified at the site. The ramparts of the compound ran for an estimated 70m by 90m in a squarish layout. In the Edo period the site hosted rice granaries of Shōnai Domain.
Visit Notes
Yamazoe-date is a fortified manor hall site in Shimoyamazoe village, Tsuruoka Municipality. No ruins remain.
